Highlander reboot gets a new financier
There should only be oneeeeee!
The Highlander reboot has found itself another company to foot its bill, with RCR Media Group signing up to co-finance the film with Summit Entertainment.
In a press release sent out to confirm the deal, Summit also confirmed that Justin Lin is still attached to helm the remake. You may recognise the name as the man behind the recent revival of the fast and furious franchises, as well as the rumoured Terminator sequel
No news on what the highlander plot will be, but for those not family with the original ( shame on you), it follows Connor Macleod (Christopher Lambert) who was born in 1518 in the Highlands of Scotland. In 1536, after facing a mysterious, evil opponent, he survives a fatal stab wound and is banished from his village, for they believe his survival is the work of the Devil. Five years later, Macleod is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean connery), a swordsman who teaches Macleod the awful truth; he is immortal, one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser's power is absorbed into the winner. Ramirez teaches Macleod the ways of the sword, until Ramirez is tragically killed by Connor's ultimate opponent, the evil Kurgan, a murderous immortal brute who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, "The Prize"; enough power to rule the earth forever. Connor fights his way through the centuries, until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the endless battles come together to fight until only one remains, and that winner will receive The Prize. The time: 1985. The place: New York City. The final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one. Despite having enjoyed little success in its initial U.S. release, the cult film launched Lambert to stardom and inspired a franchise that included multiple sequels - although they were progressively worse. Nonetheless, the original still maintains it cult status as does the tagline "There Can Only be One!"
Considering Lin’s quickly turned into a hot property after the success of Fast And Furious 5, the studio is "lucky" to keep Lin on as a director especially considering he’s also signed on for Fast And Furious 6, not to mention he’s the spokesperson for Terminator 5.
So, who would you cast as Connor and Ramirez?
