Joss Whedon Reflects On Failed 'Wonder Woman' Movie
Joss Whedon knows his stuff....
A lot of reflecting today. First George Miller on his Justice League movie, and now Joss Whedon on his Wonder Woman movie.
Avengers director Joss Whedon once took a shot at a big-screen "Wonder Woman" movie and he hasn't forgotten his vision for "Wonder Woman." and what made her such great character.
The current creative team behind Wonder Woman, Brian Azzarello and artist Cliff Chiang, highlighted why a Wonder Woman movie may be difficult. But I disagreed and it seems Joss Whedon agrees for the same reasons (Yes, I'm gloating)
She sort of traveled the world. She was very powerful and very naïve about people, and the fact that she was a goddess was how I eventually found my in to her humanity and vulnerability.
She would look at us and the way we kill each other and the way we let people starve and the way the world is run and she'd just be like, None of this makes sense to me. I can’t cope with it, I can’t understand, people are insane.
He went on to add that her relationship with Steve Trevor is what would grounds her.
Ultimately her romance with Steve [Trevor] was about him getting her to see what it’s like not to be a goddess, what it’s like when you are weak, when you do have all these forces controlling you and there’s nothing you can do about it. That was the sort of central concept of the thing. Him teaching her humanity and her saying, okay, great, but we can still do better.
“Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn has made it clear he’s interested in making a movie about Diana Prince with Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame top on the list. Let's hope he does and uses Joss Whedon's script!
