About two months ago, we spoke about a possible remake for the classic 80's movie and arguably the pinnacle of buddy action flicks (even with such films like Tango and Cash). And now, Alcon Entertainment has confirmed the news, revealing several details in a press release.

The new film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring. The script is written by Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Law Abiding Citizen).

said producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Who doesn't love the Kathryn Bigelow original and its pure heart-pounding action and thrills. Kurt's take infuses the story and characters with new twists and settings.

Kathryn Bigelow directed the original, but the remake doesn’t have a helmer just yet. That said, it already has a screenplay by Kurt Wimmer (Salt, Ultraviolet), and Warner Bros and Alcon Entertainment seem keen to get things moving quickly.

Some of you may have noticed that Alcon Entertainment is also developing another Blade Runner movie with Ridley Scott. In interviews in respect of that film, they won myt respect as they demonstrated there passion for the Blade Runner Universe and even convinced Ridley Scott to return. The same can't be said here, but then again not much is known yet.

Point Break saw Reeves’ FBI agent Johnny Utah try to infiltrate a gang of bank robbers by joining their surfing circle, only to find his loyalties conflicted when he strikes up a friendship with leader Bodhi (Swayze).
